Currently, as part of my upskilling, I’m studying a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. It’s the gold standard in Australia for all trainers. It’s not rocket science, but I have learned a few things.
One thing I have learned is about correctly labelling new training programme rollouts:
- 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 etc – refers to new versions where major changes have been made.
- 1, 1.2, 1.3 etc – refers to new versions where minor changes have been made.
This is something that I will definitely apply to my career going forward.
However, it feels like the concept could apply to other aspects of my life. Specifically, I’m starting a new nutrition and weights training programme tomorrow – and it got me thinking.
Was this going to be a major change or minor change?
Right now, I would say I’m a Karishma 8.0. This is based on working out what were the the major changes in my life and classed each major change as a new version (eg. School, Uni, Moving to Singapore, Moving to Sydney). In between all these major changes, there are smaller changes that have been made.
So this programme could be either the start of Version 8.1 or 9.0.
It would be easy to think that this new programme is going to be me starting version 9. A brand-new version of me. Someone that exclusively lifts weights again and eats “perfectly”. But the thing is, I’m still the same awesome person on the inside. I’m going to keep hula hooping, watching sunrises at the beach and enjoying everything that is salted caramel flavoured.
This new programme isn’t going to be a period of drastic change, because I want what I do to be sustainable and enjoyable. If I was interested in making drastic changes, I would be eating all the pizza and dessert today. But in reality, there was no binge eating or all-or-nothing behaviour. I just got up had coffee, hooped and got on with the rest of my day.
Tomorrow there will definitely be changes. I will be eating more protein, more vegetables and lifting weights under a tailored programme. But there will also be a lot that stays the same – I’ll still be avoiding yoga (for now) and loving hula hooping.
Version 9 might come out at some point – but for now I think we are going to be moving through versions 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 etc. It’s going to be lots of little changes that are building on an already awesome version of me 🙂
